ANY used with negative verb

Be careful!! ANY is negative if the verb is negative

Any is used with negative verb forms for a negative meaning:

  • cannot –  I can’t find anywhere to park my car 
  • has notJuan hasn’t got any brothers.
  • did notBen didn’t eat anything last Sunday because he had an upset stomach
  • am not – I’m not going to give you any help with your exam
  • will notMary won’t be making any cakes today
  • not + any is negative

 

Any with an affirmative verb is NOT negative
