Adverbs of degree – they are used to say how much something is done or to modify an adjective

1. Very, nearly, incredibly etc go before adjectives or adverbs

  • The children are extremely tired
    The boat is badly damaged

2. A lot and much can be used with verbs and are placed after the verb or verb phrase

  • He is a good player, he trains a lot
    She likes Chinese food very much
  • Did you get very tired? No, not much
