Adverbs of manner

What are Adverbs of manner?

Adverbs of manner help us to understand how somebody does something.

Position:

They usually go after the word or phrase:

  • – The fire-brigade arrived immediately.
    – He always eats healthily
  • – I speak Catalan well.
  • – Who can spell this word correctly?

In passive verbs they go in the mid-position (after the auxiliary and before the main verb):

  • – The footballer was seriously hurt.
    – The car was badly damaged.
    – The painting had been immaculately restored.
